About the Artist
Galina Datloof uses vivid colors to instill a sense of joy in her work. She aims to arrive at a synthesis of the classical and the modern, and among her 'spiritual guides' she counts Matisse, Picasso, Modigliani and Chagall.
Datloof was born in a small village in Russia in 1949. She soon discovered painting would be her vocation in life, as being but a small child she started using charcoal to sketch on the neighborhood walls. In her own words "Painting was something I just had to do, and that is where my involvement with art began."
Due to a good measure of talent and much determination, Datloof succeeded in leaving her native village and entering an 'Academy of Arts' in the city. Within her she carried the memories of a large family, struggling with everyday life but nonetheless always singing and playing music. These joy and love of music are reflected throughout her work.
