Item Description
Skimbleshanks
CATS
1982
Skimbleshanks, the orange tabby cat who ensures the proper running of the night mail train, is dressed to perfection in every detail. He wears a hand-painted and textured spandex unitard, painted with orange, gold and brown stripes. At his neck is a small, proper shirt collar, complete with bell. His front bib and arm warmers are made from a pair of original hand-knitted angora warmers. These were found by the designers in the archives at Parsons-Meares costume shop where the costumes were originally created for the Broadway production. Our Skimbleshanks bear also wears a dapper brown velvet vest, complete with buttons and a watch chain fashioned from hand-painted spandex, as well as mismatched legwarmers. Both the yarn for the legwarmers and the watch-chain spandex are made from material from the Broadway production. His face is hand-painted and continues right up into his fur wig, which is trimmed, dyed and styled to replicate the original wig designs. The entire ensemble gives the outfit an authentic look from head to feline toe.
