Item Description

Unique incense burner made from chonta hardwood and the tagua nut.  Each one hand-made by the talented Robolina family of artisans, near Quito, Ecuador.  This tagua nut is carbed with the rainforest frog.

The tropical chontadura palm hardwood is difficult to work with, but very strong and produces fine gift items.  Because the wood is so dense, full of fibers with sharp splinters, only the most skilled artisans work with it.

Item Special Note

The tagua nut is the fruit of a wild palm tree found in the Ecuadorian tropical forest.  The young bulb is gelatinous, edible and full of water.  After maturing, the tagua nut acquires the consistency and malleability of ivory.  Its quality is appreciated in the most exclusive fashion markets.

The ripe nut is harvested in a sustainable process, then sun-dried.  Each nut is them hand-dyed, molded and polished to satisfy the designers' critical standards.  The process ends with the design and meticulous creation of each piece by the hands of an Ecuadorian artist.
