Item Description
"Towards Spring II" is a 18" x 24" pastel and charcoal on sanded paper by artist Janet Gill.
Artist Statement:
"I have always been drawn to the arts and have found over the years that I really only feel happy with my life when I am creating something. I have pursued this interest through photography, printmaking, stained glass, painting, graphic design, and music.
"Most recently, classes with local artist, Barbara Traficonte sparked a love for pastels and “plein air” painting (that is, painting on location out of doors). My love for color, drawing and painting, and being outdoors all come together in this type of painting.
"I have found that “plein air” painting can be an intense visual awareness and interaction with the world around us. It’s always an adventure and surprise as to what you will find to paint and how the painting will evolve. Admittedly, some
paintings do not always work on location and light conditions change rapidly, but the observations and feelings gained stay with you, and can really enhance your “studio” painting. When a painting does come together, it’s a gift - a present that you didn’t know was out there and you get to bring it home. When work is exhibited, it is a chance to share that gift and experience with others.
"I have exhibited work at the Denmark Arts Center in Denmark, Maine, Frost Farm Gallery in Norway, Maine, The Salt Lick Cafe Gallery at Deertrees Theater, and currently exhibit at Gallery 302 in Bridgton. I am fortunate to have a job that involves graphic design at Cardinal Printing in Denmark, Maine."
