Item Description

This oil on line panel by Janet Anderson entitled "December on the Snake River" 12" x 16" and exquisitely framed in a gold rubbed wood frame to a finished size of 17" x 21".

Having enjoyed drawing, photography and other art forms throughout her life, Janet began studying oil painting initially as a way to combine her love of the outdoors with her passion for creative expression. A native of Kentucky, she has been captivated by the majestic beauty of Colorado and neighboring Western states. Whether by foot, mountain bike or cross country skis, Janet explores the West, creating plein air studies and gathering photographs for potential paintings which she then creates in her studio. Janet’s use of a limited palette results in harmonious landscapes, rich in subtleties, which capture the beauty of the West. In recent years, Janet has traveled extensively in Europe and has painted landscapes and cityscapes from her travels.

Although primarily a Western landscape painter, Janet’s subjects also include figures, still life and street scenes. “I find inspiration all around and the subject matter frequently plays a secondary role to composition, light/shadow patterns and color nuances. For me, painting is about using abstract concepts of shape, value, color, temperature and edges to create depth and form in a painterly, but realistic style.”

Janet has studied with renowned landscape painter Scott Christensen as well as a number of Colorado artists including Kevin Wechbach, Robert Spooner, Brenda Hendrix and Tim Deibler.

Janet lives in Cherry Hills Village with her husband and three children. Janet received a B.A. in English from the University of Tennessee and a J.D. from the University of Virginia.
