Simba
THE LION KING
1997
He just can’t wait to be king! Simba is destined to be the king of the jungle and his regal dress shows it. Our Simba bear is dressed in a corset made from multicolored beads strung by hand to create this replica of the original costume by Tony Award-winner Julie Taymor. This corset represents more than 30 hours of painstaking construction in an exquisitely detailed pattern. His pants have been digitally printed on fabric in the same design from the show. The removable cape, draped over his shoulder as it is in the show’s finale, is digitally printed with the same pattern. Simba also wears hand-painted cuffs around his arms and ankles, as well as red paint around his neck and shoulders. However, the pièce de résistance of this incredible costume recreation is the sculpted lion’s-head headpiece adorned with more than 50 meticulously handmade plumes. The headpiece is also painted by hand to the exact specifications of the wardrobe supervisors. Can you feel his love tonight? You will if you are the high bidder on this masterpiece of craftsmanship.
