The Grand Canal Showgirl
NINE
1982
“This is the grand canal. Its resemblance to life is not obscure. It is filled with the milk of human kindness.” Our dazzling showgirl bear from Guido Contini’s latest film, his “spectacular in the vernacular,” appeared in the original 1982 Broadway production of Nine, directed by Tommy Tune. She makes her own spectacular entrance in his film and is a head-turner. This recreation of William Ivey Long’s Tony Award-winning costume design is gracefully worn by our Showgirl bear who certainly knows how to woo a crowd. She wears a body suit of pleated organza embellished with Swarovski crystals and beads under panniers of pink and red ostrich feathers. Her long platinum wig has been styled in this eye-popping up-'do and accented with pink stripes on either side. More Swarovski crystals adorn her headdress of white feathers. Take this stunning bear home and she just might inspire you to make movies, too. “All sweet as the sweetest madrigal. On the grand canal.”
