A Slice of History--Two Spottswoode Magnums

--one 1.5 L 2008 Spottswoode Estate Vineyard and Winery Cabernet Sauvignon (95+ points, RP)
--one 1.5 L 2009 Spottswoode Estate Vineyard and Winery Cabernet Sauvignon (96+ points, RP)

Spottswoode is a family-owned historic vineyard and winery in St. Helena renowned for its exceptional, much heralded, award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon.

Established in 1882, the estate is distinguished by the historic Victorian home depicted on the Spottswoode label. Spottswoode was christened by Mrs. Albert Spotts, who owned the property from 1910 until its purchase in 1972 by the Novak family. The first Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon was produced in 1982, exactly one hundred years after the estate’s founding.

2012 marks the 40th anniversary of the Novak family’s arrival in St. Helena, and the 30th anniversary of their first vintage of wine. Dedicated stewards of their property, the Novaks were among the first to introduce organic farming practices in the Napa Valley in 1985. They have been certified by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) since 1992.

At Spottswoode, the overriding business principle is respect for the land, the history, and the customer. Their goal is to produce classic wines that faithfully reflect their grape origins in a distinct, refined style—in short, wines that are worthy to stand among those of the world’s great wine estates.

This auction lot offers the lucky winner two magnums of highly lauded Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, from two vintages, 2008 and 2009,rated 95+ and 96+ points by E. Robert Parker.
