Item Description

Explore historic and fascinating Newtown Creek by canoe! A tributary of the East River and defining the border between north Brooklyn and western Queens, the Newtown Creek has been called the waterway of the Industrial Revolution and was the location, over the years, of Indian encampments (because of the abundant oysters, fishing and marsh grasses), the U.S.'s first oil refinery, the center of rope manufacturing, sugar refining and now a Federal clean-up.  This is a very rare opportunity to see a little-known area of the city from the water!

Tour departs from Manhattan Avenue Street End Park, Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Led by a Lab parent.
