May 11th – AURORA JAZZ PROJECT, The Evolution of the Groove
Bangor’s “Aurora Jazz Project” return to Hammond Hall for an evening of intense, funky, groove- based jazz. In a nod to the past, they are calling this show Freedom Jazz Dance- The Evolution of the Groove and have programmed two sets of material worthy of that title. Join Mark Tasker, Colin Graebert, Gaylen Smith, and Bobby Duron as they kick start Schoodic Arts’ 2012 concert season!  Aurora Jazz Project has appeared multiple times at the Bar Harbor Jazz Festival, has been heard on WERU and MPBN jazz radio, played nearly 50 gigs in Bangor last year alone, has been at the Winterport Music Festival, the Full-Circle Fair, the Bangor Downtown Countdown, and are most excited to be returning to Hammond Hall.
Aurora Jazz Project has generously offered to do a free afternoon performance for our local school district on the same day.  Homeschoolers welcome!

June 8th – EIGHT STRINGS AND A WHISTLE
Committed to expanding the repertoire for the unique combination of flute, viola and cello, Eight Strings & a Whistle has been captivating audiences throughout the Northeast since 1998.  We collaborate regularly with composers from all over the US and have premiered over ten works. We also love to perform outreach programs, give workshops and talk about what we do as much as we love playing concerts!
Recent appearances have included performances at the Tenri Cultural Institute in New York City, on the Stern Virtuoso Series at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, the Keeler Tavern Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and the inaugural concert on the Chocolate Church Art Center’s Summer Concert Series in Bath, Maine. We can also be heard on TULPE, a recording of music by Sarah Davol and GRAMMY-nominated artist Dawn Avery, released on Okenti Records in January, 2008.

July 6th – MIKE LEVINE JAZZ
Pianist Mike Levine is a man of many talents whose career is a blend of different aspects of music. He attended the University of Miami where he studied piano with Vince Maggio. Here at the UM, that Mike formed a group with Billy Ross. They released their first album “That Summer Something” in 1981, which featured Pat Metheny as a guest artist. Mike wrote the majority of the bands compositions. The recording earned national recognition for them and stayed on the top ten contemporary Jazz (AOR) charts for six weeks. Subsequently they recorded “Humidity” which also did well. The Ross-Levine Band was the opening act for Michael Franks, Gato Barberi, Dionne Warwick, and many others.
