Item Description
For women who have escaped the violence in Darfur, life presents new challenges with scarce opportunities for work. By making this handwoven grass and palm-leaf basket, these women are able to become more self-sufficient and provide for their children and elderly parents. Making baskets also helps keep family craft traditions alive through a time of extreme upheaval. Handcrafted by Darfuri women of the Fur and Zaghawa tribes currently living in the Kassab and Abu Shouk camps in North Darfur.
Each basket is a unique expression of the weaver's creativity and inspiration that day. Colors may differ from the example shown. Approx. 5" high x 5" in diameter.
New.
