About the Work

David Stephenson has long been fascinated by the architecture and decoration of ecclesiastical domes, and how these dimly lit interiors became visible through long photographic exposures.

Here, we see the full splendor of the 14th century octagonal wooden ceiling (with a golden pineapple design in the center) of the Sala de la Justicia (Hall of Justice) in Seville. The image is published in David Stephenson: Visions of Heaven: The Dome in European Architecture (Princeton Architectural Press, 2005).
