Item Description
HL stands for Herb Lamb, the name of the proprietor who has been growing grapes for wines like Colgin and Karl Lawrence for 20-plus years. In 2008, only about 200 cases of 750 ml bottles of the wine were produced. The grapes are sourced from their vineyard just below the Howell Mountain AVA, in St. Helena. This 2008 is an open-knit Cabernet, showing off rich, dark berry flavors, cola, mocha, dark tobacco, and five spice flavors. Finish of rich fruit, toasty oak, black olive, and French roast coffee. Very good now, even better if uncorked 2014--19. Along with the magnum, Herb Lamb Vineyards offers a private tasting for up to six guests. Please contact donor to arrange mutually convenient tasting date; tasting expires November 2012.
