Item Description
President Taft selected George R. Putnam as the commissioner of the new Bureau of Lighthouses in 1910. For 25 years Putnam headed the Bureau. During his administration, navigational aids saw a substantial increase. He was also a prolific writer. The historian F. Ross Holland called "Lighthouses and Lightships of the United States" the best book on the aids to navigation in the U.S.

1933 edition; originally published 1917. Hard cover, 324 pages. Many black & white photographs. The pages are excellent, but the binding is loose.
