Item Description

The winner of this auction is entitled to a night's stay for two people in the Blue Room of the Keeper's House at Race Point Lighthouse, in the months of May, June, or October.

Yahoo!Travel picked Race Point Lighthouse as one of the 10 best lighthouses in the U.S. to stay in.

Race Point, at the tip of Cape Cod, has a very unique address -- simply a latitude and longitude. When guests stay overnight (transportation is provided), nobody wants the ride to the lighthouse to end. It’s almost a two-mile trail over soft sand nestled in the rolling dunes. What a spectacular ride! Wildlife lovers will enjoy the chance to see seals and whales from the beach, depending on the time of year.

A lighthouse at Race Point, Cape Cod’s third light station, went into service on November 5, 1816. The rubblestone tower was 25 feet tall and its light was 30 feet above the sea. By 1876, the old stone tower needed rebuilding, and it was replaced by today's 45-foot cast-iron lighthouse, lined with brick. Three keepers and their families lived at the light station. The light was automated in 1972, and the keeper’s house remained boarded up for more than 20 years.

In 1995, the keeper’s house and surrounding property was leased to the New England Lighthouse Foundation, now known as the American Lighthouse Foundation. Volunteers and craftsmen carried out a miraculous restoration, and the four-bedroom keeper’s house was opened for overnight stays. Today, the Race Point Light optic is still an active aid to navigation, maintained by the Coast Guard. The Cape Cod Chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation maintains all of the structures and grounds.

Item Special Note

The winner will make their reservation by calling (508) 487-9930. Transportation will be provided over the beach to Race Point.

The Cape Cod Chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation is a non-profit organization made up of volunteer members whose mission is the restoration and preservation of Race Point Lighthouse, the keeper's house, the whistle house, the oil house, and Wood End and Long Point lighthouses. The Chapter seeks to ensure that the public and their future generations will have reasonable and safe access to these historical structures and sites.
