Item Description
The stone lighthouse on Little Brewster Island in Boston Harbor was the first in North America; it was lighted in September 1716. The British left a trail of gunpowder that blew up the lighthouse when they ended their occupation of Boston Harbor in 1776. The present tower, built in 1783, is the last officially staffed lighthouse in the United States.
