Item Description
The lighthouse on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay, California, established in 1854, is the oldest light station on the U.S. West Coast. The original lighthouse, which had been damaged during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, was eventually torn down. Its replacement, a tall concrete tower equipped with an automated light, still stands.
