In 1929, thirty-five years after the founding of Washington Golf and Country Club, Golfer’s Magazine referred to the Club as the “Playground of Presidents”. And indeed it has been. Over its history the Club’s membership rolls have included a number of Presidents, among them Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft and Woodrow Wilson, as well as Members of the House and Senate, Supreme Court Justices, and other ranking governmental figures. They, along with the more than 750 families that currently make up the membership, have found the Club’s unique proximity to the Nation’s Capitol just one of the many attractions of membership. The WGCC members, many of whom are second and third generation, are active, friendly and gracious.
