Item Description
Enjoy tickets to three highly acclaimed Off-Broadway theaters where The Civilians shows have been! Visit or re-visit the Vineyard Theater (home to The Civilians' This Beautiful City), Barrow Street Theatre (home to The Civilians' Gone Missing), and The Flea Theater (where You Better Sit Down is currently running)!
This package includes:
Two tickets to a show at The Flea Theater! Founded in 1996 by three of New York’s most acclaimed downtown theater artists—director Jim Simpson, designer Kyle Chepulis and playwright Mac Wellman—the award-winning Flea Theater was originally formed out of the purely artistic impulse to create “a joyful hell in a small space”. Brash, energetic and dedicated, we quickly became a downtown beacon for creative artists of every discipline, and for audiences seeking bold and inventive work. Check out the rest of their 2011-12 season here!
Two tickets to Tribes at the Barrow Street Theatre! Called "Unquestionably, one of the best plays of the year" by The Huffington Post, this new play by Nina Raine is not to be missed!
Tribes follows Billy, a deaf man raised inside the fiercely idiosyncratic and unrepentantly politically incorrect cocoon of his home of his parents' house. He has adapted brilliantly to his hearing family’s unconventional ways, but they’ve never bothered to return the favor. It’s not until he meets Sylvia, a young woman on the brink of deafness, that he finally understands what it means to be understood.
Tribes received its world premiere at London's Royal Court Theatre in 2010 and earned an Olivier Award nomination for Best Play.
Two full memberships to the Vineyard Theatre, New York's home for bold Off-Broadway theater.
One of America’s preeminent centers for the creation of new plays and musicals, Vineyard Theatre has consistently premiered provocative, groundbreaking works by both new and established writers. From our Tony Award-winning AVENUE Q, Obie Award-winning [title of show] and Kander & Ebb’s THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS—which all went on to Broadway runs—to our Pulitzer Prize-winning plays HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE by Paula Vogel and THREE TALL WOMEN by Edward Albee, to such notable projects as Tarell Alvin McCraney’s WIG OUT!, Nicky Silver’s PTERODACTYLS, Anne Washburn’s THE INTERNATIONALIST, Jenny Schwartz’s GOD'S EAR, and recent acclaimed productions of The Civilians’ THIS BEAUTIFUL CITY, Colman Domingo’s A BOY AND HIS SOUL and Will Eno’s MIDDLETOWN, The Vineyard strives to produce new work that challenges both our audiences and artists. Works premiered at The Vineyard have garnered two Pulitzer Prizes, three Tony Awards, and numerous OBIE, Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, Outer Critics, and New York Drama Critics Circle Awards.
