Item Description

A complete fly rod and reel combination, including line, rod sock, and line.

The rod is a custom rod created by Steven W. Clark, owner of Midwest Custom Fly Rods.  If you are not familiar with his beautiful work, see more examples here.

This rod is the second created for Casting for Recovery by Mr. Clark and is the first to carry the CFR logo. It is a 4-piece, 9-foot 4-wt. in a beautiful pink with pink and red access wrappings featuring a stunning pink and red burl rod butt.

The rod handle is equally unusual with a mix of patterned premium cork accented with pink spacers. The reel is an Orvis Access Mid Arbor II in black and is loaded with bright pink backing and an Elkhorn Dusty Rose 4-wt WFF fly line. The rod sock is a fun pink and purple plaid flannel sewed up by the old man who donated the rod. You will like it!

The package includes the special Jim Teeny Casting for Recovery pink case with the beautifully embroidered CFR logo.

Altogether, this is a gorgeous fly-casting outfit that is both an excellent performing fishing tool as well as a pink reminder of the cause for which it was designed and crafted. It is a rod that will remind you as you enjoy using it of those women who bravely face their disease.

James R. Holmes, Jr., partnering with Sportsman’s Finest – the premier hunting and fishing shop in Austin, Texas – has donated this fly rod and reel in honor of his younger sister, a breast cancer survivor.

Jim is a native of Austin and a graduate of the University of Texas (BSEE/1962.) His love of fishing, and lately an obsession with fly fishing, led him to discover the great work being done by Casting for Recovery.

Since cancer, and especially breast cancer, has struck a number of the women in his family as well as close friends, being a part of the Casting for Recovery (CFR) effort has become a priority to him. Over the past year, he has partnered with Sportsman’s Finest in donating fly-fishing outfits for fundraising for CFR. He has additionally tied sets of flies as gifts for participants in the CFR-Texas weekend CFR events.
