Aaronel deRoy Gruber was already an accomplished sculptor and painter, when in the 1980s she began to seriously pursue photography. Quickly, Aaronel mastered this new art form, tirelessly experimenting with a variety of cameras, formats and processes, ranging from infrared and hand-coloring to the latest in digital technology.

Aaronel also sought out unusual vantage points, as seen in this now-classic image looking down on the Flemish-Gothic roof of the Union Trust Building, erected in downtown Pittsburgh in 1915-16.
