Item Description
Enjoy this beautiful ceramic pot made by Walden grandfather and artist Bob Curwen who has worked with clay for over 25 years.
His saggar vessels are placed in a bricked-in enclosure inside the kiln and surrounded by layers of rock salt, wood shavings, and metal oxides, and fired to 1800 degrees. His vessels are often fired two or three times to extract the subtle color variations of the desert. Landscape forms are often invaded by humankind's presence symbolized by the use of iron handles. The combination of different materials (wood-clay-metal-stone) also add a sculptural quality to his work. He strives for an aesthetic balance between humankind and the graceful beauty of the primitive clay vessels.
