History - Carmelo who was born and raised in Sicily, Italy arrived in Houston with his wife, Hilary in 1979 from the Cayman Islands. In 1981 they took over a swimming pool warehouse which was converted into the restaurant, Carmelo's. In 1985 Carmelo's Ristorante opened in Austin, to begin with in the main building and gradually the lee-way and upstairs rooms were transformed into additional dining areas and event rooms for festivities and celebrations. The parking lot was added some years later when the next door veterinary office closed its doors. Walking through the patio into the historical landmark "The Old Depot Hotel" warm hospitality and appetizing aromas greet you. Last year in June 2011 Carmelo's celebrated 30 years of service to Austin, West Houston and Katy residents - in the restaurant and in the community.
