Complimentary classroom visit from a Bard Graduate Center Educator who will present one of these special suitcases: History through Hats, Radiance of China, Gifts from our Ancestors: Native American Treasures, or Circus and the City. Bard Graduate Center educators, along with a suitcase of touch collection objects, visit individual classrooms to present a range of topics through a hands-on observation of objects, inquiry-based discussion, and an art-making experience. Each presentation lasts approximately one hour. Topics Include: History Through Hats Explores the art of millinery through vintage photographs, hats, and hatmaking tools. Students will create a hat inspired by their favorite historic or contemporary milliner. Radiance of China Reveals the beauty and techniques of Chinese cloisonn enamel. Students will create multi-colored ÒcloisonnÓ designs based on auspicious Chinese symbols. Gifts from Our Ancestors: Native American Treasures Presents the unique art and culture of indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest. Students will create bold line drawings inspired by a Northwest Coast animal image. Circus and the City (Fall 2012) Examines the historical time line of one of New York City's most significant cultural phenomena: the circus.
