The Richey Suncoast Theatre opened in 1926 as the Meighan Theatre, named after silent film star Thomas Meighan. Sound movies premiered at the Meighan Thetre in March, 1930. After stints as The Vogue and The Cinema, the theater re-opened in 1972 as a theater featuring live productions under the name Richey Suncoast Theatre. Today, the Richey Suncoast's gold dome is a centerpiece of historic downtown New Port Richey.
