Item Description
Enjoy a private tour of the fashion galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, recent home of the ground-breaking Alexander McQueen exhibition, with a fashion history expert Chloe Chapin, along with passes to the Museum!
Chloe Chapin is a costume designer, professor and writer. Chloe has costumed for Tony-award-winning Broadway productions, regional theaters and opera companies, and with experimental theater and dance performances in NYC. She has taught the history of clothing and style at the Fashion Institute of Technology since 2006, has been a research assistant to many award-winning costume designers, and writes a popular blog about history, clothing and fashion.
Chloe's Fashion History Tour at the Metropolitan Museum of Art uses the subjects of the artwork in the museum's permanent collection to weave together the history of time period, the subjects, and the clothing they wear. Starting in Ancient Egypt, we will move briefly through the Greek and Roman and Medieval Galleries, in order to spend most of the time in the European Painting Collection. We will swing through 19th Century Paintings to end the day in the American Collection – the day is flexible and can respond to your individual interests. Fun things to discuss are the history of textiles and dyes (and why that is at all interesting), the changing nature of silhouettes, how clothing and politics are related, why clothing and gender identity are linked, how art and fashion are both legacies of the rich and influential, and the evolution of the necktie.
