Item Description
This mask by the late opera star Beverly Sills was donated to The Mask Project by the estate of the late Erna Butler who bought it during a previous Mask Project. Although she sang repertoire from Handel and Mozart to Puccini and Verdi, Sills is best known for her performances in coloratura soprano roles in live opera and recordings. After retiring from singing in 1980, she became general manager of the New York City Opera. In 1994, she became the chairman of the Lincoln Center and in 2002 of the Metropolitan Opera. She died in 2007.
