Item Description
The Blue Jay and Red Cardinal children are so excited to know that they can make a difference in another child’s life, and help to better our school. Making these quilts was a way in which they could give back to the school and to future VPC students.
These quilts derived from our Martin Luther King lesson, which was preceded by our Letter of the Week Curriculum lessons on Kindness, Love, and Giving. During Q week, when the children learned about quilts, we read a story about a quilt maker who teaches a rich king a very important lesson. The king learned that it was more fulfilling to give than to receive. He realized that caring and loving others is what makes one happy and content. This was the foundation of our lessons and fundraising projects. We explained that only one person from each program would end up with each one of their beautiful, cooperative art work, but we stressed that a lot of children, future VPC students were going to be blessed by their teamwork.
We are extremely proud of all their hard work and the final products!
These self-portrait class quilts can hang on the wall or serve as a bed throw, and will surely be a memory for a lifetime. Twin size 86" x 54".
Love, Ms Brunie and Blue Jay and Red Cardinals Teaching Teams: Ms Noemi, Ms Alex, Ms Linda, Ms Catherine, Ms Monique, Ms Allison, Ms Karima, and Ms Cristina
A special thanks goes to our seamstress, Nelly Agron, who contributed her talent to put these quilts together in such a gorgeous way.
