Item Description

Bid for a spot on Tour of the San Andreas Fault on Sunday, September 23, 9:00am with Walden Parent and Professor of Geology at California State University Northridge as your guide!

The primary fault along the North American-Pacific plate boundary is the San Andreas fault, one of the world's most famous earthquake-generating structures. The most recent San Andreas rupture occurred in 1906, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that devastated San Francisco. In southern California, the most recent quake occurred in 1857, another magnitude 7.8 earthquake that did relatively little damage primarily because fewer than 50,000 people lived here.

This full day trip, for as many as 10 people, will visit several sites along the San Andreas to view evidence for the 1857 and prehistoric quakes and discuss the inevitability of the next 'Big One'. Participants will travel to Wrightwood, San Bernardino, and San Gorgonio Pass (near Palm Springs), and will travel via 12-passenger van to be provided by trip leader, Doug Yule. Price per participant is $75. Participants meet in Altadena. Walden students, parents, and their friends are welcome!

Item Special Note
