Item Description
This lovely full color, linen-covered book contains over 40 pages of "I Wish" poems written by the 4th and 5th grade Grey Wolves with an introduction by Sydni Myrick-Causey, who, along with Janet Chae have also penned poems. Walden art teacher Portia Hein art-directed this beautiful book.
From Sydni's introduction: "These poems were inspired by Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech. His words dealt with a specific time in history and are still very relevant in today's society. Children are very aware of the current issues they're growing up in. What's so special about Walden is that these current issues are discussed freely, often brought on by the kids' questions and concerns. At the end of the day, we all have hopes, dreams, and wishes and kids are no different. These poems speak to that. You will read a few of the hopes and wishes that the Grey Wolves have as it relates to themselves, their family, Walden, and the global community."
