Located in Allston, Massachusettes, Model Hardware originally opened in 1918. Ike bought the hardware store on a shoestring and through the early years, his whole family helped work the store, making it a true "mom and pop" operation. Ike's son Bob earned a Master's Degree in Education and taught school in Boston until 1973, when he joined Ike at Model Hardware.

In 1985, Model Hardware affiliated with ACE Hardware, which put the store in a competitive position while being able to offer its customers an even more diverse inventory selection. Kevin Cunningham joined Model's staff in 1996 and brought his enthusiasm and experience to enhance Bob's business philosophy and to quickly became Model ACE Hardware's store manager. Bob and Kevin have assembled a staff that reflects the success brought by exemplary customer service through outstanding product knowledge and individual attention to their customers.

A major move occurred in 2006, when Benjamin Moore Paints was successfully recruited to join Model's impressive paint department. Model ACE Hardware carries the full Benjamin Moore line of paints, stains, and coatings. Together with a huge paint sundries department, Model's coatings offerings is a leader in the Boston area.

Bob is serious about Model Hardware's commitment Welcome to Alston Signto the neighborhood. He and Model have consistently supported local church groups, various non-profits, the West End House Boys and Girls Club, and Bob has been a long time Director and has served as President of the Allston Board of Trade.

Bob continues to strive to keep the store in a strong position in the Allston-Brighton neighborhood by combining excellent, old time customer service with modern retail practices, offering good prices on a wide ranging, deep inventory.
