Item Description

"Sea Glass & Rain," Original Painting by Mallory Page, mixed media on wood panel, 24"x48".

Drawing inspiration from her own emotions, Mallory Page paints from a deep and  intellectual place, a place that grants vivid color, movement and life to her personal experiences. Her art evokes cognizance in the viewer, guiding each to personal experiences of their own. The emotional dissonance in Page’s work elicits a unique response in every viewer. It invites you to allow a struggle of emotion between joy, peace, beauty and passion, between conflict and control. It is this quality that draws the eye to her art, whether small, intimate pieces, or large pieces that cover an entire wall. The “gestural, controlled drip” technique is calming and invigorating at once, whimsical and stoic, inciting a bevy of responses. It invites the viewer to stay a while, to feel the painting, to discover what the colors, the lines, the movement means to them. Painted on wood and canvas, the abstract pieces are a combination of acrylic, graphite, ink, charcoal and recently more textural items like crushed gemstones.

A studied artist, with a B.A. in interior design, Mallory’s sound foundation in art fundamentals like color and balance, and her continued pursuit and research of art and artists lend to the brilliance and feigned simplicity of her work. Traveling extensively for research, Page continually gains inspiration from artists like Cy Twombly, Agnes Martin, Helen Frankenthaler and Franz Kline, to name a few. Her background and this dedication lent to a quick rise to Page’s notability as a serious artist. Shortly after beginning to publicly show her paintings in 2005, she began to sell her pieces to key figures in the interior design circles. Mallory quickly gained recognition and began getting placement in showrooms throughout the south, and more recently, a host of galleries. And in the beginning of 2010, the emerging artist opened her Julia Street Studio in the Historic Arts District of New Orleans.

The Mallory Page studio, located at 614 Julia Street, features the artist’s most recent series, which she rotates out throughout the year.
