Item Description
Set mostly in the early 1800s in New England, The Taker is the story of an independently minded young woman, Lanore, who falls in love with Jonathan, a man she cannot have. In her rush to try to make him her own, she loses everything -- his attention, her family's love -- and is banished to Boston. On her own, she falls in with a mysterious and seductive man, Adair, who has otherworldly powers. He promises to bind her faithless lover, Jonathan, to her forever, if she does as he asks. She accepts his offer, only to find that she's made a terrible bargain, and it is up to her to free both her and Jonathan from Adair's grasp.
