Item Description

Winner receives a signed 15"x20" giclee print of Sumosurfer by Los Angeles artist Tom Biagini.

One of Tom's series  is the uniquely original “Sumosurfer.”   This series presents a character that Tom describes as being an aspect of himself:  someone that doesn’t feel constrained by society’s expectations and is free to live happily and outrageously outside the box. The images of this Sumosurfer character, as well as his friends and his life, reflect the belief that all of us should challenge ourselves to face our fears, question our perceived limitations and boldly embrace spontaneity.

Tom is a self-taught artist from Marin County in the San Francisco Bay Area who began painting at the age of 18. At age 7 his father took him to the Yucatan peninsula in a VW bus where they lived on the beach, ate fish they caught in the ocean and explored an entirely new and different culture. Like a lot of kids, Tom’s first exposure to art was through comic books, which provided an escape into an imaginary world and an introduction to characters that were dynamic, relatable and inspirational.
