Item Description
Emanuel Ax has assembled a program that offers different treatments of the theme-and-variations genre by four major composers—who were also accomplished pianists—from three different centuries. From the 18th century, we have Haydn's magnificent example, one of his finest compositions for solo keyboard. From the 19th, we have grandiose sets by Beethoven and Schumann, who led the way toward further evolution of the form. And the recital begins with a short concert opener from the past century by Copland, a composer not generally associated with solo piano music.
Two tickets at Carnegie Hall, Section - Parquet, Row C, Seats 14 & 16. Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 8pm.
Item Special Note
This item closes May 10, 2012.
