Item Description
This painting is part of a series Sandra created during the summer of 2006. Insomnia during that summer allowed Sandra to watch the moonlight on the ocean at Cape Cod each night until the sun began to rise. She would then sleep and paint these images in the afternoons.
Sandra has been working in the arts for 35 years. She tudied sculpture at the Museum School, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, during the 1980’s and early 1990’s. Also, at that time, she studied drawing, painting & printmaking at the New Art Center, Newton, MA.
She works on a theme or image for about two years: expanding and contracting, abstracting and reconstructing on the picture plane – in watercolors and acrylic paint. She has also experimented with mixed mediums, cast bronze, stone carving, wood working, performance art, cast plaster of paris and clay. Images or themes may be left dormant for a while and then revisited with new ideas in a few years.
Sandra earned a Certificate of Museum Studies, in 2001, from Harvard Extension – completing her program with an internship at the Shelburne Museum, Shelburne, Vermont. She researched tableware in Colonial America as it is related to the Museum collection.
Sandra lives in Shelburne with her husband David Coen. She has three adult children, two adult step-children and three beautiful grandchildren.
