After working in critical care nursing for many years, Karen Pischke, RN observed that many patients admitted to the intensive care units reported underlying stress issues. Many had disease and illnesses that seemed largely preventable through healthy lifestyle management and stress reduction. Karen Pischke felt there must be better ways to promote wellness and prevent disease. She then was introduced to the Integrative Model of Healthcare, a model that combines the research of science with the aspects of Holistic Care: Caring, Assisting, Rapport, Empathy, Support…..just what she had been looking for. And in the year 2000 Dreamtime Wellness® was born, offering holistic healthcare and education on Cape Ann, MA and throughout the Boston area.

Born into a family of nurses, Karen Pischke began her nursing career in 1979. She became a registered nurse in 1983 and has worked in intensive care units across the country. After seeing so many patients in the intensive care unit admitted with illnesses that were either largely preventable or stress-related, her work shifted from "disease and illness" to "wellness and prevention". In 1997, Karen began to focus more on stress reduction, individualized holistic care and healthy lifestyle management in both her personal and professional practice In the process of making this shift, Karen began to explore and learn alternative and complementary medicine (CAM) therapies for her personal health and wellbeing as well as to better support clients and patients in their overall health care.

In 2000 she officially began her holistic wellness practice, Dreamtime Wellness based in Gloucester, MA. Karen has been working in the field of wellness and integrative medicine as her professional nursing practice since 1999. With an international client base, Karen has also offered CAM services at hospitals and healthcare settings throughout the Boston area and even nationally. She believes the integration of CAM into mainstream healthcare is the future of healthcare due to the holistic nature of these practices that best support patients, potentially improve outcomes, and increase patient satisfaction.
