Item Description

This entire pieced quilt is made from only one fabric print in two color schemes, cut into over 1,300 pieces. Yes, 1,300 pieces! Is it any wonder that Amanda has invested more than 90 hours creating it?

So that we could show you closeups of different areas of the quilt, we  shot several individual shots. There is just no way these photos do the quilt justice.

When standing in front of it, it is like looking at a painting. With bright and subtle designs to explore, there is always something new to notice in the "kaleidoscopes."

Here are the Specifics:

Size: Large Queen (84" x 108")

Fabric: 100% Cotton

Batting/Stuffing: 100% polyester made from recycled soda bottles.

Colors: Black, brown, tan, cream

Original Design: "Barrel Racers"

Amanda: "I have fond memories of gymkhana games as a teenager and barrels were my favorite, so I designed this quilt with many spirals of various sizes to echo those memories. Some horses I rode could turn on a dime, and others were like aircraft carriers. But the love for the game and playing together was always present. I designed this quilt from scratch using the traditional kaleidoscope block and a book called One Block Wonders by Maxine Rosenthal as a guide for how to make the spinning patterns."

Construction: 1,300 pieces, 90 hours of labor, Machine pieced and quilted. Wow!

Care: Machine wash in cold water on gentle. Line or fluff-dry. Some shrinkage should be expected at first wash.

Donated By: New England quilter, Amanda Longley, in memory of her best friend's horse, Beam's Sky King, nickname: "Bullwinkle." (featured in small photo below).

Amanda: "He was a 17-hand high Missouri Fox Trotter. Bullwinkle did not belong to me on paper, but thanks to a very good friend who opened her barn to me, we belonged to each other in our hearts. He passed away in early 2011 at the age of 29 and I will never forget him. I see Lucky Horse giving many people and horses the same opportunity and it makes me want to do everything I can to help them. Unfortunately, my work hours and family life leave me little barn time. So instead, I worked late at nights to sew this quilt in an effort to support this amazing group and the relationships they are fostering."

Note from Lucky Horse Equine Rescue: While we sincerely appreciate the generosity of every donation, some take our breath away and make our hearts sing even louder. We are touched, Amanda, by the personal effort put into this donation and your support of LHER.
