"This small mosaic tells a story, which will be understood by everyman. I created a small picture with clear contrasts. It not only tells about the question, if someone is loving me, it also tells about the insecurity to find answers and the desire to find an easy way to find an answer."
I love to work with smalti, I love the brilliant colors and the texture, I love the reflection of the light on the irregular broken surface of smalti, because the light makes the mosaic vivid. I’m also fascinated of the long history of smalti. I fell in love with this material without knowing anything about it when I was as a child and visited San Marco in Venice (maybe one step in my life that let me make mosaics later). But I also use other materials like marble or pebbles. I often offer my ideas with abstract mosaics, but from time to time I only want to show something for its own.
I learned to do mosaics in 1989 at Centro Internazionale Studi Insegnamento Mosaico (CISIM), Ravenna, Italy - the double reverse method - but it took until 2004 to start again with a commission. Today I prefer working in the direct method. I also offered short mosaic courses and made projects with kindergarten/school-classes. I am a member of Contemporary Mosaic Art (CMA). My mosaics have been published in Brit Hammers, “BREAKOUT: Your Pathway To Success”, and in Irit Levys/Pam Givens, “Mosaic Fine Art – Abstracts” – with one more book is in progress.
