Item Description
William H. Gustafson, an art teacher, rendered the watercolor painting of the Bell Tower on Augustana College's Campus in Rock Island, Illinois. Gustafson has a historic link to the structure. His great-uncle Philip Peterson, a Swedish immigrant was a carpenter and homebuilder in Rock Island. Gustafson was always proud to hear the story of how Philip built the belfry for $200 using existing timbers and roofing from the original structure around 1936. This was a Swedish tradition for remembering buildings and ever since, the Bell Tower has stood as a symbol for Augustana. Frame is included with the painting and measures 21.5" tall x 18" wide.
