Item Description

Bear Description: Dia Del Oso Muerto is a tribute to the annual Latin American Day of the Dead festival that is meant to honor the memory of past loved ones.  Colorfully and festively painted in intricate floral patterns and decorative Latin American inspired motifs, Oso Muerto exudes culture, tradition, and family.  The bear’s body is painted gold while his mariachi-like outfit is painted in blues and purples.  His expressive face is covered with floral elements and a mustache sits atop his grinning mouth.  On his back you can find a group of dancing and guitar playing skeletons in sombreros.

Artist Bio: Carand Burnet is a mixed media artist and writer.  She assembles cityscape sculptures out of wood, glass, shells, and natural objects.  Her poetry and nonfiction has been published in journals such as Crazyhorse and Gulf Coast.

Lyell Castoguay most recently completed the ESCAPE!!! Portfolio Exchange, a printmaking project that was shown at the ECA+ gallery in June 2012. Castoguay managed the collection, collation, and distribution of 15 prints from printmakers living in seven states. His current series of large woodcuts, which range in size from 3' x 4' to 3' x 6', explore the professional careers of popular stage acts including: magicians, spiritualist mediums, and escape artists of the mid-19th to early 20th century.
