Item Description

Bear Description: Clown Bear is adorned in an orange and green jumpsuit accented with white ruffles on the collar and cuffs. Three white puff balls serve as buttons and oversized blue shoes.  White clown makeup covers his face, a stop-sign red ball tops his nose, and orange yarn like hair swirls around his head. A horn on a string
crosses his body. This is a bear with an edge.

Artist Bio: Gary Hallgren, born in 1945, is perhaps best known for his underground comix work beginning in San Francisco in the 1970’s, most notably the series Air Pirates Funnies, a parody of Disney characters which spurred a greatly-publicized lawsuit with the Walt Disney Company (the case was settled out of court).  Hallgren is a 1968 graduate of Western Washington State College (now WWU); having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, Hallgren now resides in Granby, MA with a studio located in Holyoke, MA.  Hallgren’s freelance work has been featured in several publications including The New York Times, Newsweek, Time, Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan, Boston Globe, Rolling Stone, The Wall Street Journal, Mad, and Entertainment Weekly.  Hallgren is one of the ten returning artists from the 2009 Bear Fest.
