Item Description
The Athletics By Philadelphia by David M. Jordan. This book is softcover, 219 pages, and is signed by the author.
In 1900, President Ban Johnson of the infant American League convinced Milwaukee manager Connie Mack to invest in a new team to be formed in Philadelphia. The man who would come to be known as baseball's "Tall Tactician" arrived in the fall and set about building a team that he would pilot to the ultimate heights and depths of baseball in an amazing 54-year run.
This book, written by a longtime fan of the Athletics, traces the team through its signature seasons and its ever-changing relationship with the city of Philadelphia. It details the exploits of such Hall of Famers as Eddie Collins, Jimmie Foxx and Al Simmons, as well as the achievements and personality of Connie Mack.
David M. Jordan is an attorney in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, whose boyhood memories include dozens of A's games in the late days of the franchise.
