Item Description

Named "Every Blade of Grass Has Its Angel" this one-of-a-kind weaving/mixed-media assemblage is 13"w x 13"h x 3"deep. It is inspired by a quote from the Torah (Old Testament), "Every blade of grass has its angel that hovers over it, and whispers, Grow! Grow!" - Genesis Rabbah, Talmud, 10:6

Nature has an exalted place and played a major role in Jewish and Shaker teaching and iconography. In addition, "angels", guardian stars, or messengers from on high, come in many forms in the Torah. They not only spoke, informed, and protected individuals, but brought people's messages and prayers to God.

In the artist's own words: Born in Chicago, I currently work out of my Living Threads Judaica studio in the beautiful Berkshires of Massachusetts. I studied at The Art Institute of Chicago, and have been a visual artist/craftswoman for over thirty years. I am honored and delighted to have been invited to exhibit my weaving/mixed media assemblage series: "SHALOM: Weaving Threads of Peace" at the "City of Peace", Hancock Shaker Village. I believe there is a syncronicity, a call and response as it were, between strands of Judaism and Shakerism, not only through our shared values, and a rich symbolism and iconography, but through our reverence for the land and community. This current series reflects my on-going commitment to the earth, healing, and peace in the world. Many of these artworks have been included in exhibits at the United Nations, various Peace Conferences and organizations throughout the United States and Israel.
