Connie Hossler Boussom is a featured BRArtist this year. She grew up in Nappanee, IN and at an early age wanted to be an artist like her father. After marrying David and raising their children she went back to college at the University of Alabama Huntsville and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Art in 1976. She and Dave moved to Bay St. Louis, MS in 1997 when Dave was transferred by NASA to work at Stennis Space Center. There she became a part of the Gulf Coast art community and exhibited in several galleries including Maggie May’s in Bay St. Louis. In Aug. 2005, Bay St. Louis was destroyed by Katrina. Connie and Dave and their pets evacuated to Florida. Most of their home and possessions were destroyed. They eventually relocated in Lillian, AL.
After losing most of her artwork, Connie began painting in a style different from anything she had done before. The hurricane had given her art a new dimension and viewpoint. Before, she painted humorous paintings of women and now she paints faces that are fractured, but very colorful. They take on a look of stained glass. For awhile after the hurricane, her paintings depicted women and animals caught in the fury of the storm. Now after almost 4 years, her paintings depict a happier time.
Connie creates her art in her studio in Lillian, AL and is very active with the Arts in Pensacola, FL
