Item Description
Winner of this auction will receive a Round of Golf for three (3) at the Historic Salem Country Club. Threesome will play with member donor.
Established in 1895 in Salem Massachusetts, the club came to its current site in Peabody in 1925. Designed by Donald Ross, Salem Country Club is renowned for its immaculate condition and extraordinary design. Consistently listed as one of Golf Digest's "Top 100 Golf Courses", Salem has hosted five national championships. These include the 1932 USGA Women's Amateur, the 1954 USGA Women's Open, the 1977 USGA Men's Senior Amateur, the 1984 USGA Women's Open, and the 2001 Men's Senior Open Championship.
The par 72, 18 hole layout provides challenges for every player. The rolling fairways leave few levels lies for approach shots into strategically bunkered, crowned greens. The difficult rough makes accuracy essential. Water hazards are limited and penalizing, but not intrusive. A word frequently used to describe this design is "fair". Good shots are rewarded and poor shots are appropriately challenged. This characteristic makes Salem a delight for players of all abilities. True to Donald Ross's vision, this classic Ross course is considered one of his finest enduring legacies.
Lunch on the grounds is included. Date for visit to be mutually agreed upon based on donor's and winning bidder's availability. Certificate expires in December 2013.
