Item Description

Harmony (Art Quilt, 35"W x 47"H), Deborah Fell

"This art quilt is entitled Harmony and is part of the Mendocino Coast Conversations series created during my Artist-in-Residence at the Mendocino Art Center in 2011/12. The work encompasses the colors and organic elements of the surrounding coastline. Materials in this piece include canvas, paint, Thai paper, cotton, metallic and cotton thread. Techniques include raw edge applique, collage, machine stitching, stamping and painting. The work, in its final assemblage, is an abstract interpretation of the beauty of the Mendocino Coast."

Deborah Fell is an artist whose medium is quilting. Her tools include natural fabrics, fiber reactive dyes, textile paints, stitching and repurposed objects. She creates dimension, movement and depth using line and color. Deborah creates art quilts because they are a means of self-expression which combines the beauty of art and the comforting tradition of quilting. A unifying element of her art is mark making on fabric. In her work, Deborah frequently responds to the natural world surrounding her and this is often reflected by the organic sensibility of her work.
