Suzi Marquess Long is a California artist who arrived on the Mendocino coast at the end of 2005 and decided to stay. She founded her gallery in the old Wind & Weather watertower, and appreciates the convenient live/work situation. She has been written about in ART CALENDAR Magazine and is frequently in the local press. One of her paintings is in International Artist Magazine's book, "100 Ways to Paint a Landscape". Her art is shown at her own Watertower gallery in Mendocino; A Taste of Stevenswood on Main Street in Mendocino; and the John Hanes Gallery in Boonville. Suzi is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast and an Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America, and has been painting in pastels since 2001.
Suzi has painted murals since 1979, and began with vertical surfaces on Oahu and around the San Francisco Bay Area with her business, WhimsyWalls. Her work has been featured in Better Homes & Gardens (on three occasions), NEWSWEEK, and SUNSET BOOKS. For the past three years, Suzi has been one of the Mendocino Eco Artists (MEA), a group of 17 local professional artists who exhibit in support of the Salmon Restoration Association (SRA), the Mendocino Land Trust, and the Mendocino Area Parks Association (MAPA). Since 2000, Suzi has studied pastels with Albert Handell, Judith Cunningham, Susan Ogilvie, Margot Schulzke, Anita Wolff, Richard McDaniel, Bob Rohm, Michael Chesley Johnson and Ruth Hussey. She has also painted with many fine watercolor artists over the years. Suzi won an Honorable Mention in this year's juried Garden Show at the Mendocino Art Center in June and had a solo show there with her paintings of water, A BIG SPLASH, in July.
