Item Description

Pas de Deux Series (No. 8): Which Way? (Pastel & Charcoal, 25"W x 32"H), Don Paglia

Don Paglia has pursued complementary careers in academic medicine and fine arts and continues to conduct biomedical research on rhinoceroses and endangered wildlife. His formal training was mentored by UCLA Art Professor Jan Stussy. He was president of the Physicians Art Society and has exhibited at the Smithsonian and Los Angeles Air & Space Museums, Kennedy Space Center, L.A. County Museum of Art and elsewhere, receiving ten Best-of-Show awards. He designed logos and journal covers for the American Society of Hematology, Aerospace Medical Association, UCLA School of edicine, and cachets and commemorative cancellations for the US Postal Service.

His current work utilizes found natural objects to create metaphorical sculptural forms. In mixed media drawings and paintings, he converts abstract grounds of floated oil paint into representational images. He is affiliated with the gallery of the Mendocino Art Center.

"In art, as in science, my primary motivation is to explore that ineffable boundary between known and unknown, between disciplined order and random chaos, between entropy and enlightenment."
