Item Description

Sea Fans (Acrylic, 6.5"W x 13"H), Hilda Pertha

Hilda Pertha's life-long career began with her first solo exhibit held in Philadelphia in 1944. She has shown her works in the U.S., France, Spain, Peru and Norway in museums and public galleries. WESTART magazine published over 200 of her articles on painting.

European travels and years of residence I New York, Paris and other metropolitan cities have had their influences, but coastal and mountain regions have been strongly affirmative in bringing out the abstract style for which she is best known. Her subjects, abstracted from Nature, explore the underlying energies and movements wherever she finds them, from a flower to a star, from earth to sea to sky. A French critic once wrote, "Hilda Pertha's compositions are animated by wind, fog and other rhythms which affect the soul while out in nature."

Hilda has continued her involvement in the art life of Mendocino since 1960, when Bill Zacha invited her to teach the first Summer Session at the Mendocino Art Center.
